Ms Jajini Susan Varghese
MBBS, MRCS, MPhil, PhD(Cantab), FRCS(Plast), Associate Professor UCL
Consultant Breast and Plastic Surgeon
Ms Jajini Susan Varghese is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. She is dual-trained in plastic surgery and breast oncology surgery, completing her surgical training on the Pan-Thames rotation in some of the busiest hospitals in London, including St Bartholomew's Hospital, Royal Free Hospital & Guys and St Thomas Hospital. Prior to her surgical training, she completed her PhD on the Genetics of Breast cancer at the University of Cambridge on full scholarships. She remains academically active and is an Associate Professor at University College London (UCL).
Jajini is passionate about applying the latest plastic surgical techniques to improve cosmetic outcomes after a cancer is removed. This is usually done at the same time as the cancer operation. She is also able to discuss risk of getting breast cancer in the future through genetic testing and offer personalised preventative and early detection strategies. As a female she finds her job extremely fulfilling and her patient-centred approach to clinical practice means that she discusses all available options, and tailor makes the surgery for her patients. For women who seek Breast reductions, she offers abdominoplasty and liposuction at the same time avoiding multiple GA and recovery periods. She can also offer an all female team for surgery.
She is actively involved in research and is currently the Principal Investigator on several national and international trials and is widely published. Ms Varghese lectures on the Burns, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery MSc course, and she is the sub-module lead for the breast oncoplastic section. She also supervises MSc students and is an examiner for both MSc and PhD courses. Additionally, she is the current speciality lead for mainstreaming breast cancer in North London Genomics (GLH) hub.
She is a member of the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and Association of Breast Surgeons (ABS) and has recently won the Outstanding Young Person of the Year international award by JCI.
In her personal life, Ms Varghese enjoys traveling and enjoys dinner parties with both her family and friends.
